Black Brushed Wooden Frame with double mount. Overall Size 31 inches x 17 inches.Concorde History Text reads as follows: Supersonic airline research in Europe began in 1956 & resulted in the British & French Governments signing a treaty for the joint design, development & manufacture of a supersonic airliner six years later. The first prototype was rolled out at Toulouse in 1967. In 1969 Concorde 001 made her first test flight on the 2nd March & her first supersonic flight on the 1st October. Concorde first entered service with British Airways & Air France. She measures 204ft in length, stretching between 6 & 10 inches in-flight due to heating of the airframe. She is painted in a specially developed white paint to accommodate these changes & to dissipate the heat generated by supersonic flight. The characteristic droop nose is lowered to improve pilots' visibility for take-off & landing. Concorde takes off at 220 knots (250mph) (compared with 165 knots for most subsonic aircraft). She cruises at around 1350mph - more than twice the speed of sound at an altitude of up to 60,000 ft - over 11 miles high. A typical London to New York crossing would take a little less than three & a half hours as opposed to about eight hours for a subsonic flight. After a freak accident on the 25th July 2000 at Paris, Charles de Gaulle Airport an Air France Concorde crashed killing all passengers & crew. As a result all Concordes were grounded for safety enhancements, & on the 7th Nov 2001 British Airways relaunched flights to New York. However rising costs & a decline in air travel passengers (following Sept 11th attacks) forced British Airways to retire their fleet of Concordes. The final commercial flight from New York to London was on the 24th Oct 2003.
